Signs Of Life Up In The Stars

SCIENTISTS have found water on a planet outside the solar system
for the first time.
The sensational discovery on the planet named Osiris increases
the chance of life among the stars.
Osiris is 150 light years from Earth and is the first extra-solar
world known to have an atmosphere.
When water is absorbed into the atmosphere it affects the way light
is reflected, which can be measured from Earth.
Dr Travis Barman, who led the team in Arizona, said: "We now
know water vapour exists in the atmosphere of one extrasolar planet.
There is good reason to believe others contain water vapour."
Osiris, discovered in 1999, is known as a "hot Jupiter"
because it is also made of gas.
It got its nickname because it orbits so close to its parent star
its atmosphere is boiling away into space at 1,100C.
Osiris, the Egyptian god of life and death, lost part of his body
when he was cut up by his brother.
Its star is in the constellation Pegasus and is visible with binoculars.
