Representatives of nine major hunting and fishing organizations
met with House Committee on Energy and Commerce Chairman John
Dingell to confer on and help write legislation for, the curtailing
of greenhouse gases.

COMMENTARY:
The rank and file members of the nation's fishing and hunting
organizations had better wake up and make their personal positions
known to their leaders, because the leaders of those organizations
are now succumbing to global warming alarmism, and speaking
and acting in the name of those rank and file members.
Representatives from Ducks Unlimited Inc., Trout Unlimited,
Pheasants Forever, BASS/ESPN Outdoors, Izaak Walton League
of America, Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, the
Coastal Conservation Association, the American Sportsfishing
Association, and Wildlife Management Institute met with Rep.
John Dingell, (D-Mich.) to discuss the capping of carbon dioxide
emissions via governmental legislation. And, their activism
appears to be based on completely undocumented reports supplemented
with irrational conclusions.

The opening paragraph of the AP article reads:
Global warming could force elk and mule deer
from much of the American West. Wild trout could disappear
in lower Appalachian streams. Two-thirds of the country’s
ducks may disappear. [Emphasis ours.]
The Wildlife Management Institute, rather suspiciously described
as a Washington-based advocacy group for sportsmen, offered
their own list of concerns, again without any evidence or
documentation using the same “could” terminology:
• Prairie pothole regions essential for waterfowl could
lose 90 percent of their wetlands, causing a 69 percent decline
in North America's breeding ducks.
• About 42 percent of the trout and salmon habitat could
be lost by the end of the century, with bull trout virtually
disappearing in the high mountain West and wild trout from
lower Appalachian streams.
• The number of Pronghorn antelope, elk and mule deer
will dwindle as rising temperatures allow trees and shrubs
to overwhelm the sagebrush ecosystem in the West.
• Populations of bobwhite quail will shrink in the Deep
South as summertime drought and higher temperatures disrupt
their breeding cycles. And drier conditions in fall and early
spring will threaten quail in the Southwest.
• While an increase in water temperature and other change
could benefit some salt water marine species, sea-level rise
would destroy thousands of acres of coastal salt marshes and
seagrass that are home to larval and juvenile game fish.
This is nothing but scare tactics. There is no scientific
evidence to support any of it. It is nothing but complete
alarmism in order to achieve a political agenda, that of influencing
the future behavior of mankind through manipulation of the
environment, the economy and ultimately our very freedoms.
Here’s a good indicator that none of this is about
hunting and fishing, or preserving habitat, or managing wildlife:
Paul Bledsoe, a spokesman for the National Commission on Energy
Policy which argues for mandatory steps to reduce climate
change pollution, notes that the hunting and fishing organizations
"are a critical swing constituency in so many states."
There you have it. Global warming alarmists are deliberately
courting and propagandizing and outright hoodwinking sportsmen
into helping sway the balance of public opinion in favor of
their political agenda.
