Celebrity Soundbites Make Not a Revolution

It hardly matters that Murdoch’s New York Post—sort of a neocon version on the National Enquirer with its cheesy headlines screaming about the utterly irrelevant and decadent spectacle of Britney, K-Fed, Paris, and Anna Nicole Smith—has decided to add Christine Ebersole “to the list of kooks who say the 9/11 terror attacks were an inside job.” It doesn’t matter because the New York Post is nothing short of bird cage liner, fish wrapper, trash left on the floor of the BMT Jamaica Line during rush-hour.

In Bushzarro world, where torture, rape with chemical lights are deemed acceptable behavior and mass murdering 700,000 Iraqis elicits nary a bleat of contempt and protest, let alone revulsion, on the larger part of the stepfordized masses, Ms. Ebersole’s comments on talk radio about the fascistic character of the government is but a nano-blip on the corporate media radar screen.

Such commentary serves to win over few, although it is considered a feather in the cap of the “truth movement,” a small but vocal minority desperate to acquire converts. But these voices, certainly rational—never mind the debilitating if not engineered nonsense of space beams and mysterious pods interjected in classical COINTELPRO fashion—are drummed out by the hysterical yawping of the usual suspects, from Rush “Oxycontin” Limbaugh to the Reichsmarschall of the Clear Channel airwaves, Michael “Savage” Weiner.

Not because they represent rational argument, but rather because they feed bread and circuses to a public satiated with “entertainment,” never mind such is now squarely morbid and decadent with the decomposing body of Anna Nicole fought over and Britney “Shears” dizzily shaving her head to the rapt attention of millions.

For a teeming multitude of wage slaves quickly slipping down the greased slope toward third-world status, a never-ending parade of celebrity victims, including Christine Ebersole, passes as cheap entertainment, as the commonly agreed consensus is they deserve their fate for the crime of success and money at the able and practiced hands of corporate media executioners.

Most Americans, that is a considerable number above and beyond your average X-Box zombie and E- and M-TV acolyte, understand John F. Kennedy was assassinated by the government, same as many realize the government—for some time now practicing an authoritarian fascism minus overt telltale sign, that is unless you fail to pay your taxes or dabble too openly in drugs imported by the CIA and Wall Street—pulled off nine eleven, although they are conspicuously absent hard facts.

It comes natural to many, this understanding full well the government represents consistent and repeat offender evil, although they are not wont to deal with it, as that is the job of the guy over there, the “kook” smashing his head against the wall. He only draws attention to himself and that is dangerous. If need be, when push comes to shove, they will gingerly step over his battered body.

Ms. Ebersole is free to go upon her way, although she may experience a “Charlie Sheen,” that it say she may yet pay a price for her honesty.

Dare I say, this time next week, her words will have evaporated like late spring rain with sun hard upon it. Because playing the corporate media game means one enters the electronic arena and obeys the rules. It is a machine that feeds on ephemeral victims.

Nothing short of toppling that deck of cards—or burning them outright—will change the way things are done and will continue to be done.

And in the meantime, please remember, celebrity soundbites make not a revolution.
