Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that it
would be "absolutely unacceptable" for him to stay
in power after his second consecutive four-year term ends in
May.
"Everyone must abide by the law, first and foremost the
head of the government," he said at a his annual news conference
at the Kremlin.
Putin's popularity at home had led from calls for supporters
for him to change the constitution and stay on for another period
as president.
