TOP VOLE Sir William Gates III says that the Internet will revolutionise
television within five years.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Gates said that the young
to move away from conventional telly programming and are more
likely to sit in front of there computers watching things like
YouTube.
Gates said that over the next five years viewers will demand
the flexibility offered by online video and abandon conventional
broadcast television, with its fixed program slots and advertisements
that interrupt shows.
He pointed out that programming such as elections or the Olympics
show how TV is terrible. It forces viewers to wait for the guy
to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and
want to go back and see it, Gates said.
Gates said that the two will eventually merge and this will pose
new challenges for TV companies and advertisers.
