The recent exclusion of Ron Paul from the FOX News debate has
sparked some controversy at home as well as across the nation.
Peter Cromwell, moderator for the Hillsdale County for Ron Paul
group said the move by Fox is outrageous.
“You have someone who got three times as many votes in
Iowa as Giuliani, and he’s not allowed there but Giuliani
is,” Cromwell said. “How does that make sense?”
Paul supporters in Hillsdale are not the only ones who think
FOX’s exclusion is unfair.
Cromwell said the New Hampshire GOP will be withdrawing from
the debate if Paul is not included.

None of the group members had heard any reasons from FOX for
excluding Paul.
“He’s been consistent for 20 to 30 years now,”
Cromwell said. “These other people can’t conceive
someone like him — someone who has never voted for something
that is unconstitutional.”
The Hillsdale supporters feel that Paul’s previous debate
performance is a good indication of what another chance to speak
would do for his campaign.
Paul’s performance during ABC’s Saturday night debate
has reinforced the determination of the Hillsdale loyalists.
At the group’s meeting Sunday night, Robert Dudley said
Paul was the only voice of reason at the debate.
“He was the only one who made any sense,” the North
Adams resident said. “(Paul) would actually answer the questions.
When the other candidates were asked questions they would just
change the topic.”
Hillsdale resident Greg Morgan said he has supported Paul since
1988 and the tactics used by the other candidates at the debate
were the kind of moves they probably learned in their college
debate classes.
“When you can’t argue with someone you argue ad hominem
– against the man,” he said. “Paul doesn’t
have to think about what his advisors have told him to say, so
he can just answer. That makes them (the other candidates) stumble.”
Dudley and Morgan were two of the 15 Hillsdale for Ron Paul members
who gathered in the Kroger Conference room to discuss plans for
the final weeks leading up to the Michigan primary.
The group’s main focus between now and the primary will
be newspaper and radio ads and talking to people at the polls.
Myron Tolzman and Dan Falls of Hillsdale have been distributing
signs at the fairgrounds during the past weeks.
“If Dr. Paul doesn’t win – I’m not a
Republican anymore,” Tolzman said.
Jeff King, national county coordinator said one of the main talking
points at the polls will be Democrats.
“The Democrats have turned their backs on Michigan,”
he said. “Anyone voting for a Democrat is literally wasting
their vote.”
Morgan agreed working the polls would be an important step.
“We need to reach the people who haven’t discerned
the differences between the candidates,” he said.
The question becomes where to draw the line Cromwell said.
He asked if the group wanted to say and do whatever it takes
to get votes or to let Paul’s message do the talking even
if it pushed some people away.
“I just ask myself, ‘What would Ron do?’”
Cromwell said.
