BENTONVILLE - Vandals splashed anti-Bush slogans on the walls of the Benton County Courthouse over the weekend. They covered the courthouse building, annex, and county cars with political graffitti.

Police say surveillance on other buildings in the area showed nothing out of the ordinary. So far police have only received one phone tip, but as yet have no suspects.

Silver spray paint was used to scrawl conspiracy theories and anarchic battlecries such as "9/11 was an inside job," Bush Knew," and "Death to the New World Order," on walls, windows and vehicles. The vandals also included the URL of their 9/11 conspiracy website.

"We'd be interested in knowing about anybody that's been going around saying it, acquaintances or someone they know has been saying this repeatedly, or anybody that's bought a lot of silver paint recently," said Police Chief James Allen.

While police look for a suspect or suspects, city workers are cleaning up a mess that could cost taxpayers housands.

"Nobody wants to see their taxes go up and this causes tax money to get spent that should have been spent for something else," Chief Allen said.

Residents were dismayed by the vandalism.

"I was shocked partly because it's Bentonville and I don't think I've seen graffiti in Bentonville before," one resident said.

"I don't know what their motive is, 'cause city governments have nothing to do with federal government. If you think this is such an important idea to them than why don't they stand up and claim it," said another. "Instead of just sneaking around in the middle of the night and defacing property."

Anyone with information on the recent vandalism is asked to call the Bentonville Police Department.
